O-Negative Block Releases Returned to the Blood Bank

Having a Safe-T-Vue Temperature Indicator pre-applied to all O-Negative blood bags can help assure that they have been maintained within compliance temperatures and can be returned to inventory when returned to the blood bank.

Depending on the transport systems used by a blood bank, two easy-to-implement, similar methods are described in this publication.

Refer to Pneumatic Tube Systems (PTS) and Use of Safe-T-Vue Temperature Indicators on Blood Bags for suggested packing of blood for PTS Transport.

Pneumatic Tube System (PTS)

  1. Prepare all paperwork ahead of time
  2. Apply Safe-T-Vue Non-reversible Temperature Indicator to each bag
  3. Store in a pneumatic tube “bullet’ in refrigerator until ready to send
  4. Returned bags can be inspected to assure they have been stored and returned within compliance temperature.

Transport by Cooler

  1. Prepare all paperwork ahead of time
  2. Apply Safe-T-Vue Non-reversible Temperature Indicator to each bag
  3. Store in refrigerator ready to send separately or bundled
  4. Returned bags can be inspected to assure they have been stored and returned within compliance temperature.
